Argument #1

To be content is difficult, especially growing up in the western hemisphere. Having been taught all your life that you have to continuously strive for greater, it´s hard to just be satisfied with your position. Americans should learn to be content with what they have, but goals and ambitions should be something to look up to and move towards. However success, is different to every person, and so to reach satisfaction for some may be simpler than others. I believe, one should be content with what they have, however should have goals to continue moving forward rather than staying in the same spot, immobile.

The american dream is based on the idea that everyone gets the same chance and opportunity to a successful life, but the american dream has taken on a new meaning. Everyone has their own idea of the american dream, some think of wealth while others think of a large humble family. Once one has reached this then they have reached their personal american dream, which is why its easier for some to reach it. This is their version of success, because their dream was their aim/ purpose; which quite literally is the dictionary definition of success, "the accomplishment of an aim or purpose". However what one has in the moment should be acknowledged and appreciated because everything could be taken away in a matter of seconds. Still, fear of everything being taken shouldn't stop one from reaching for their dream.

Someone opposing Dalai Lama might say that the more things one has then the happier they'll be. Those supporting Dalai Lama would say that contentment has to be practiced before one can move forward with anything. Although, this is only true if this is your own personal american dream and I agree with the supporting side, but fear shouldn't take control of our life. One must still go for their american dream wether or not they are scared.

Fear and money will always be there, so one might as well use it but not rely and get attached to it because contentment can be developed. It is understandable that contentment is very hard to practice, but not impossible in fact i practiced it would even better your mental health. Never the less, one shouldn't settle until their american dream has been reached. The healthiest option is to be satisfied subconsciously as you reach for the american dream you have made for yourself.
